We’ve had a big couple of days in the Keep Champion Road Open community, and we want to make sure everyone has the facts directly from us.
With growing interest in the Champion Road closure, and new voices stepping forward in the west, we’ve issued a formal media release to clearly set out our position.
Our message hasn’t changed:
Champion Road is a critical connector.
The consultation has been poor.
The impacts have been ignored.
And this community deserves evidence, transparency and proper engagement, not decisions handed down without answers.
The press release reinforces that we will work with anyone who genuinely listens to the community and stands with us in calling for a full, independent review of LXRP’s justification for the closure.
You can read the full media release below.
This is about our neighbourhood, our safety, our access, and our future.
Thank you to everyone who continues to speak up, show up, and demand better for the inner west.
Gill Gannon, who has worked tirelessly alongside this community to Keep Champion Road Open, has now put herself forward to fight for the west in a bigger way.
She didn’t do this for ambition.
She did it because of the mess that’s been made. With the now years of poor consultation, a road closure no one asked for, shifting stories, and a complete lack of transparency has pushed everyday people into stepping up because they’ve had enough.
Gill has shown what real community leadership looks like:
• Turning up
• Asking hard questions
• Refusing to accept “decision made” when the evidence doesn’t stack up
• And standing with residents when others wouldn’t
This is what happens when government decisions ignore community voices, everyday people rise.
And we’re proud to see one of our own do exactly that.
